This technique identifies the softening of hard sides and most obvious wash strokes by blending the wet oil paint on the canvas with a clean, dry brush. In blending, an already colored area is brushed very lightly with criss-cross strokes or by gently tapping with the corner of the brush. This provides you with colors a soft and natural appearance. Not all olive oil paints are well suited for this technique – most are too soft and usually tend to smear. Only a thick, firm paint is well suited for this technique.
To combine paints to a marbled effect, place different colored paints on the mixing part of your palette and use your palette knife to post and fold the chemicals together, then pull even. Streaks of each color should be obvious in the mixture. Do not over mix.
THINNING CHEMICALS FOR ADDING HIGHLIGHTS:
Once mixing paints for program over thicker paints already on the canvas, in particular when adding highlight colors, slim the paint with SOLUTION WHITE, LIQUID CLEAR or ODORLESS THINNER. The guideline to remember is that a thin paint will stick to a fuller paint.
CLEANING AND DRYING OUT THE BRUSHES:
Painting with the wet on rainy technique requires frequent and thorough cleaning of your brushes with paint thinner and more fit. A clear one pound coffee can is ideal to hold the thinner and more fit, or use any textbox approximately 5″ in size and at-least 6″ profound. Place a Bob Ross Screen in the lower part of the can and fill with odorless leaner approximately 1″ above the screen. Scrub the tooth brushes bristles against the display screen to remove paint sediments that can settle on the bottom of the can.
Dry your larger tooth brushes by carefully squeezing them against the inside of the coffee can, then slapping the bristles against a brush beater stand mounted in a6105 tall kitchen trash basket to remove the remainder of the thinner. Smaller brushes can be cleaned by cleaning them with paper hand towel or a rag (I recommend using Viva newspaper towels because they are incredibly absorbent). Will not return the brushes for their plastic carriers after use, this will cause the bristles to become limp. Never clean your Bob Ross tooth brushes with soap and normal water or detergent as this will destroy the natural strength of the brush bristles. Store your brushes with bristles up or resting flat.
APPLYING LIQUID LIGHT:
Use the 2″ clean with long, firm up and down and horizontal strokes over the canvas. The coat of Liquid WHITE should be very, very thin and even. Apply just before you get started to coloring. Do not let the paint to dry before starting.
PLACEMENT OF OIL HUES FOR THE PALETTE:
I suggest by using a palette at least 16″x20″ in proportions. Try planning the colors throughout the exterior edge of your colour pallette from light to darker. Leave the center of the palette for mixing up your paints.
LOADING THE BRUSH:
To fully fill the lining bristles of your brush first hold it perpendicular to the color scheme and work the brush bristles in the pile of color. Then holding the clean at a forty five degree angle, drag the toothbrush across your palette and away from the stack of paint. Flipping your brush laterally will guarantee both sides will be loaded evenly.
(NOTE: When ever the bristles come to a chiseled or sharpened flat edge, the comb is loaded correctly. )
For a few strokes you may want the end of your wash to be rounded. To do this, stand the toothbrush vertically on the colour pallette. Firmly pull toward you working the brush in one direction. Lift off the palette with each stroke. This will often round off the end of the brush, coloring with the rounded end up.
MIXING FOR SHOWS:
Place the tip of your brush into the can of LIQUID WHITE COLORED, LIQUID CLEAR or UNSMELLING THINNER allow only a tiny amount of medium to remain on the brush bristles. Load your brush by gently dragging it through the highlight colors, duplicate as needed. Gently touch the bristles against the palette just enough to spread out up the bristles and loosen the paint.
LOADING THE COLOUR PALLETTE KNIFE:
With your colour pallette knife, pull the combination of paint in a slender layer down across the palette. Holding your cutlery in a straight together position, pull the long working edge of your knife diagonally across the paint. This will create a roll of car paint on your knife.
